Dollar General (DG) Stock

This resource will update why the Dollar General (DG) stock moves up or down. On days in which the stock is little changed, I will not update this resource. October 6th, 2016 – 69.05 – Up 3.11% – Today, WalMart issued a press release that they were going to focus on their online presence more so than their brick and mortar locations. WalMart bought Jet for $3.3 billion recently and is now going to break away from what they are known for. This is great for dollar stores and brick and mortar retailers. In my opinion, WalMart should focus offline...

LKQ Corp Stock

This resource will highlight the reasons as to why the LKQ stock is up or down. Any day in which the stock is little changed, I will not update this page. October 4th, 2016 – 34.19 – Down 2.9% – Today we learned that LKQ acquired Andrew Page Limited which is a wholesale parts company in the United Kingdom. This pushed the stock well below its 50 day moving average. We can only hope some buyers come in tomorrow or it could head all the way back down to the 200 day moving average around $31.50. August 30th, 2016 –...

September 21st, 2016 – $39.61 – Up 2.59% – Under Armour has been around the $38 to $39 price point for almost the entire month of September. Today, the Fed decided to not raise rates which pushed the entire market higher. Let’s see if Under Armour can gain some footing at this point. If it can break through its 50 and 200 DMA we...

Dollar General and Dollar Tree August 2016 Earnings Reports

We have always found it odd that both Dollar General and Dollar Tree report earnings on the same day and at the same time. It is almost like they are the same company; well, they basically are. Tomorrow, August 25th, 2016, before the market open, both DG and DLTR will report second quarter earnings. When looking at Google Trends both look quite promising.   In the month of July, Dollar General saw a 31.57% increase in searches vs the previous year while Dollar Tree saw a 20.5% increase. From strictly a Google search standpoint, Dollar General looks stronger in this quarter....

LKQ Earnings on July 28th, 2016

Tomorrow is a huge day for LKQ Corp. This has been a hot stock on our radar for several years. We even suggested buying back in late 2010 before it broke out. Since October of 2013 the stock has been range bound between $24 and $34 a share. Every time it reaches one end of the range it bounces around to the other end. An almost three year consolidation is very unusual but potentially very profitable. Below you will see the chart for LKQ over the last five years: Notice the “train track” range between $24 and $34. Also notice...

May 13th, 2016 Retail Sales Numbers Offer Investing Opportunity?

Almost everyone is predicting a lackluster retail sales number for April 2016. On Friday, May 13th, 2016 we will learn about retail sales in the month of April. The Wall Street expectations are for sales to be up 0.8% and up 0.4% excluding auto sales. These are aggressive expectations with Kohl’s, Nordstrom and Macy’s all taking a beating after their most recent earnings reports. Most would agree that department stores are taking the worst of the beating when it comes to consumers deciding to spend their hard earned cash. Stores that have printed cash over the last nine months include...

Under Armour Execs Leave, Stock Tanks

On Wednesday, May 4th, 2016 the Under Armour stock is under heavy pressure. Just two days ago we asked the question will Steph Curry’s injury hurt Under Armour? It looks like injuries have nothing to do with this stock. Rather, the departure of Chief Marketing Officer Henry Stafford and Chief Digital Officer Robin Thurston seem to be weighing on investor’s minds. Another interesting theory is the excess inventory in Sports Authority stores is causing major problems with this retailer. That’s funny, because Nike has just as much apparel in Sports Authority stores yet their stock is performing quite well today. It doesn’t...

Will Steph Curry’s Injury Hurt Under Armour?

One of the best retail stocks, in terms of Google Trends growth, is Under Armour. It is amazing to think Under Armour has Cam Newton, Jordan Spieth and Steph Curry – the big three in their respective sports. After winning the MVP and NBA Finals last year, Steph Curry has been on a tear in 2016. In fact, he hit 400 three pointers which is over 100 more than any other player has hit in a single NBA season. Unfortunately, in the first round of the playoffs, Steph Curry was injured. With Under Armour not having a huge presence in...

The Case Study of Ulta Cosmetics

In late 2010 Ulta Cosmetics (ULTA) came on my radar as a stock to own. Investors Business Daily had it in the IBD 100, which is now the IBD 50, and a number of investing publications were raving about the strong earnings of this stock. I put it up to the Google Trends test and this is what I found: Notice the huge jump in search traffic at the end of 2010 and the beginning of 2011. Today, I would like to see five straight years of year over year traffic increases but remember there was a recession back in 2009 causing...
